Color of Cuts story collection
This summer we are working together to develop and release a report that details the disproportionate impacts of Medicaid cuts on communities of color - The Color of Cuts. This report will examine proposed Medicaid cuts and use data to show that the cuts will exacerbate racial health disparities. It will also include stories of members from our partner groups who will be directly affected. Our plan is to have events to release the report around the 7/30 birthday of Medicaid. That isn’t very far off! We are asking for each group to contribute two stories (with consent forms and photos) from people of color who can speak to the importance of Medicaid to themselves or their families – the deadline for submission is Friday, June 17th. Here are the materials you will need for story collection:
We are borrowing the Color of Cuts idea from Washington Community Action Network who found it to be a powerful tool in their state level budget fight. Here is a link to their report (the HROP version will include more personal stories to increase the relevance of the report to your organization’s work): http://washingtoncan.org/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/color-of-cuts.pdf
